Email Update--and Pirate Ship Visit!

We have our class Halloween parties this Monday and Tuesday.
  • Monday: Miss Didi's class, Mrs. Heebner's class, and Mrs. Anderson's class
  • Tuesday: Miss Heather's class, Miss Deborah's class, Mrs. Knudsen's class, Miss Emily's class, and Miss Jaycie's class
Our parties usually start between 11:00 and 11:15. (Check with your child's teacher if you're not sure of the time.) Everyone is invited to attend--we love company! We ask that you park in a marked space in the front parking lot because we do still have carpool on party days! We try to finish up by 11:35, so we can get all of our guests out before carpool starts.

Our school will be collecting unwanted/extra Halloween candy again this year to donate to the troops through Operation Gratitude. If you would like to contribute any wrapped candy, just send/bring it in on Wednesday 11/1 or Thursday 11/2. We'll drop off everything on Friday to be mailed off.

Starting the week of November 6th, we'll be collecting canned/boxed goods to donate to Second Harvest for their Thanksgiving food drive. We'll send more information home on that this week.

We've been relatively lucky so far this year with illnesses at school. We've had a couple of cases of the stomach bug, some kids out with the respiratory infection that's going around, and a few isolated cases of strep. Below is a recap of the preschool health guidelines from the handbook. Please make sure we have a phone number for you where we can always reach you or an emergency contact if your child gets sick. It's distressing when we have a little one who doesn't feel well and is tearful, asking for mommy or daddy, and we we can't get a hold of anyone. If your contact information changes, please let the office and your child's teacher know so we can update everything. We also appreciate the heads up on any illnesses your child has so we can stay on top of things!

For the health and well-being of your child and of others at school, please keep your child home for the following reasons:
  1. Fatigue (for any reason), lethargic behavior
  2. A fever (a child should remain at home for 24 hours AFTER the fever is gone and/or until prescribed antibiotics have been administered for 24 hours)
  3. Sore throat
  4. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (child should remain home for 24 hours after the last episode)
  5. Red, crusty, or itchy eyes (conjunctivitis or pink eye is very contagious). The child must be kept at home for 48 hours while being treated with antibiotics and should only return to school if there is no discharge from the eyes.
  6. A runny nose if there is colored nasal mucus**
A parent or person on the emergency contact list must always be available by phone during school hours. It is the parent’s responsibility to have someone available who can come to the school for emergencies or for a sick child.

**Yellow or green mucus is often a sign of an infection. If we notice this in your child, especially if it's accompanied by other symptoms, we will call and ask you to pick him/her up in an attempt to keep illnesses at a minimum in the classroom. At this age, many of our students are still learning to cough into their elbows, use a tissue to blow their noses, and keep things out of their mouths. We need all of the help we can get to keep everyone well!

Thanks to the Martorells (Ultimate Martial Arts Studio) for bringing their pirate ship (and pirate!) to visit us on Friday!

End of October

Just a reminder that tomorrow, October 25th, is the day that all of our 3s and Miss Deborah's 4s meet at the Y Pumpkin Patch for their field trip. Park in the Y's front lot and walk over by the soccer field to meet your child's teacher at 9:45 so we can have everyone ready to roll at 10:00! We'll see all of our other Wednesday classes at regular time at carpool!

Also, the 25% hurricane discount off the third tuition installment has been applied for November. There was a note sent home with tuition envelopes detailing payment info. If you have any questions, please call the office. We're in the process of issuing checks for families who paid tuition in full at the start of the year. Look for those at the beginning of next week.

We're enjoying the fall weather that has finally arrived--and having lots of fun with our fall/Halloween activities!

Happy Fall!

It's been an exciting week and we're only halfway through! We had a visit from the fire truck today to talk about fire safety and show us the firefighting equipment. Look below for some of our pictures!

Next week we have some off-campus field trips to the Islands Y Pumpkin Patch scheduled for our 3s and 4s. Miss Heather's class is going on Monday 10/23 and Miss Deborah's class and all of our 3s are going on Wednesday 10/25. This isn't a regular school day for those classes. The students don't come to school, but instead meet at the pumpkin patch at 10:00 to start their field trip. Activities usually wrap up about 12:15-12:30. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather! If there are heavy rain/thunderstorms, we have to cancel and have a regular school day.

Make-up pictures are up on AdLib Photography's website. Follow the directions listed on the original blog post to order. (http://wippreschool.blogspot.com/2017/10/our-school-pictures-are-ready.html) . The next batch of prints will be ordered Friday morning.

If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, come visit the Fall Festival at the church! There will be fun and games for everyone!

Mid-October

We've been practicing our Halloween songs; decorating our classrooms; and working on lots of ghosts, pumpkins, bats, owls, and monsters!  Our class Halloween parties will be on Monday 10/30 and Tuesday 10/31.  Keep an eye out for additional info from your child's teacher.

Below are the words to our Halloween songs if you'd like to sing them too!

Five Little Witches
There were five little witches flying in the air, flying in the air, flying in the air. (Fly hand like a broom)
There were five little witches flying in the air
For this is Halloween!
There were four little skeletons jumping up and down... (Shrug shoulders up and down.)
There were three little ghosts that were scaring everyone....(Boo!)
There were two little goblins saying “Trick or treat!”...
There was one little pumpkin swinging on a gate...(Sway back and forth.)

Itsy Bitsy Spider
The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again!

Stirring the Brew
Stirring and stirring and stirring the brew (Pretend to stir something in a big pot.)
Whooo-ooo! Whooo-ooo! (Put hands near mouth and wiggle fingers.)
REPEAT
Tip-toe, tip-toe, tip-toe—BOO! (Use fingers to tip-toe in the air until BOO!)

Pumpkin, Pumpkin
Pumpkin, pum pkin, round and fat (Hold hands out to sides like a round pumpkin.)
Turns into a jack-o-lantern (Twirl hands.)
Just like that! (Bring hands out to side with palms up, then clap on THAT.)

Johnny Appleseed Blessing
The Lord is good to me and so I thank the Lord
For giving me the things I need
The sun and the rain and the apple seed

The Lord is good to me!

October Update!

Just a few updates for October...
  • Photo retakes are this Friday at 9:15.  We'll automatically take pictures for anyone who was absent during picture days.  If your child had a picture taken last time, but you'd like a retake, please email wipp450@gmail.com or call the office @ 912-897-7568 so we can get his/her name on the list. If your child doesn't attend school on Fridays, just come on up at 9:15 and we'll get the pictures taken ASAP.  Directions for ordering are below on the blog.
  • This Saturday is Family Fun Day at the Wilmington Island Farmers' Market.  WIPP will be doing Storytime and a Halloween Sing-Along at 10:00 on the stage.  We've been practicing our Halloween songs during music with Miss Kathleen, and we'd love to have our students come by to sing!  We'll be sending a flyer home this week with some of the other fun things going on (including Family Fun Yoga, Art, and Cooking!)
  • This month is Fire Safety Month.  In addition to crafts and activities in our classrooms, we'll have a visit from Southside Fire Department on Wednesday, October 18 (weather-permitting and barring any emergency calls!)  If your child is a Tuesday/Thursdaystudent, we invite you to come by and see the fire trucks between 9:30 and 10:00.  Our Wednesday classes will be going out to visit and hear the firefighters talk about their jobs and safety equipment during the morning.
  • Hopefully we are through with any weather-related days off for this year!  Instead of scheduling make-up days during Thanksgiving or Christmas break, we will be discounting tuition for our students 25% for the month of November.  We'll send additional information on this when tuition envelops go home at the end of the month, but we wanted to send out a heads-up!
  • As of the end of this month we will have one spot open in our 3s, one spot open in our 4s, and one spot open in our 5-day 2s.  If you know of anyone who's interested in joining us at WIPP, tell them to give us a call!
Don't forget to check our class blogs to see what's going on in your child's classroom.  Links can be found on the right-hand side of this blog!
