Just a reminder that because of our Christmas program, we have no carpool, Early Birds, or Lunch Bunch on Friday.  Please bring your child to his or her classroom between 8:50 and 9:05 so we can get ready to walk over to the Sanctuary with our classes.  After the program, students will be dismissed with their parents and everyone is invited to Fellowship Hall for cookies and punch.

Our four-year-olds will wear their Christmas scene costumes; all of our siblings (angels) dress in white or light-colored clothing with a halo and/or wings; everyone else wears dress/church clothes.

After freezing temperatures all week long, it was nice to be able to get a few minutes outside today.  We made sure we were well-bundled up!  As the cold weather continues, remember that our school follows the closing schedule of Savannah-Chatham Public Schools. (Just in case!)


As we prepare for Christmas, we're practicing our songs for next Friday's program and we're busy creating Christmas surprises for our friends and families.  Everybody helps out, even our grandparents!  (Thanks for all you do for us!)

Welcome back! We hope that you had a wonderful and family-filled Thanksgiving. It's hard to imagine that the Christmas holiday season is already upon us. Look for the December newsletter in your child's backpack this week. Here are the highlights!


  
Inclement Weather
As we approach the time of year when temperatures might dip below freezing (!!!) just a reminder that if Savannah-Chatham public schools close because of bad weather, we also close.


 
Christmas Week Information
  
Class Christmas Parties
Classes will have their Christmas parties on Wednesday or Thursday (12/15 or 12/16) depending on attendance days. Keep your eyes open for more information from your child’s teacher and/or room mother.

Christmas Program
Our school Christmas program will be on Friday, December 17th , at 9:30 in the Sanctuary. All of our children will participate in the performance. Siblings attending WIPP dress as angels with light colored clothing, a halo and/or wings. More details on individual class “costumes” will follow from your child’s teacher.

Everyone is invited to join us for cookies and punch afterward in Fellowship Hall. We’d like to do a school-wide cookie sharing this year. As your family does their holiday cookie baking, would you please make an extra dozen to send to school? See the bottom of the newsletter sent home for the form to return with your child.

 

A Peek Ahead at January
  • We return to school on Tuesday, January 4th.
  • No school on Monday, January 17th. (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
  • No school for students on Friday, January 28th. (Parent/teacher conferences) 


 


W.I.P.P. CHRISTMAS COOKIE RECIPE EXCHANGE
As you start your holiday baking, please make an extra dozen of your favorite cookies and send them to school on a disposable plate (paper or plastic) along with one copy of the recipe. If you’d like to include your name, that would be great, but we’ll accept anonymous donations! These can be sent to school during the week of December 13th and we’ll store them until our program on Friday morning.

Thank you for contributing so generously to our food drive for Second Harvest.  Our donations have overflowed our barrel and there are still two days remaining!  Our students are learning firsthand how wonderful it is to share with others during the Thanksgiving season.


All of our classes are busily preparing for our Grandparents' Day program this coming Tuesday.  We have turkeys, Pilgrims, and Native Americans all ready to strut their stuff!  If you'd like a preview of some of our songs, check the earlier post and sing along.

Today we were happy to welcome Mr. Richard Young from the Georgia Accrediting Commission.  He took a tour of our building and grounds, looked at our records, and interviewed our director before confirming that we again qualified as an Accredited with Quality Georgia Preschool!  If you come by the school through the office entrance, look to the left to see our certificate.

Grandparents' Day Information

Tuesday, November 23,2010
10:00 a.m. program in the Sanctuary

Photography by Lori will be available from 9:00-9:45 a.m. if you would like to have a picture taken with your grandchild.  Cost will be $8.00 for a 5x7 photo and will be due at the time the picture is taken.  Make all checks payable to Photography by Lori.


If you're not having a photo taken, please bring your grandchild to his/her classroom at 9:45 a.m. to put on costumes for the program before going over to the church sanctuary.  After the program, our 3s and 4s will accompany their grandparents back to the classroom for snacks.  Our 2s and their grandparents, and any families with multiple students at WIPP, will meet in Fellowship Hall for snacks and punch.

Remember this is not a normal school day for us.  There will be no early birds, car pool, or lunch bunch.  Children will come to school with their grandparents/special friend, sit with them during the program (except when it's their turn to come to the front of the church and sing) and leave with them after the program.

November Update

Craft project
Thanks to parents who sent in their extra tiles from those home remodeling jobs! We're still in need of about 50 more 4X4 or 6X6 tiles. If you have any to donate, please send them/drop them off at school no later than Tuesday, November 9th.

Time Change
Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour this Sunday, November 7th!

Holiday
No school Thursday, November 11th or Friday, November 12th in honor of Veterans' Day.

Grandparents' Day
We're getting ready to welcome our grandparents on Tuesday, November 23. If you haven't returned your child's form, please do so ASAP. If you need to recheck the information, I've posted it on our the website.

Lunch Bunch
Just a reminder that we're offering Lunch Bunch each afternoon from 12:00 to 1:00 for our 3s and 4s. If you'd like your child to stay, send his/her lunch and $5--and we'll take care of the rest. Remember that you must pay the morning of your child's stay (or you can prepay ahead of time and the office will note that.) Also, please make sure that you are on time to pick your child up. There is a late fee for children who remain after the 1:00 dismissal.

Thanksgiving
We have no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday (November 24-26) for the Thanksgiving holidays. Have a wonderful and blessed family time!

Each morning as we start the day, our students come in and do various kinds of morning work.  While part of our staff is out supervising our morning drop-off, the rest are in the classrooms helping with various projects.  As you can see from the pictures below from our 2s, 3s, and 4s classes, everyone has the opportunity to work/play at developmentally appropriate activities.
