Music with Miss Jenna

We are so lucky this year to have Miss Jenna with us for music.  She visits each classroom once a week for 15-20 minutes and helps us out with the music for all of our programs.  We love Miss Jenna--and she's our guest blogger today!

We are having so much fun in music!  Each week we use instruments and singing to learn and discover new concepts essential for growth and development.  Each class is designed to allow for self-expression while encouraging classroom participation, appropriate classroom behavior, and enhancing social skills. Our students have learned new songs and instruments and have been given the opportunity to create their own music, as well as learning music theory and turn-taking skills.

We have learned about the acoustic and electric guitar, the ukulele, and the djembe, as well as several other rhythmic instruments. And we haven't stopped there! Every week we identify the calendar date, weather, colors, counting and numbers, rhyming words, rhythm and sequencing, and directional terms.  Instruments bring attention to fine motor skills, and our warm up song, "Everybody Wiggle," brings attention to gross motor skills and following directions.

We are currently preparing for our Mother’s Day Program and Graduation by learning new music and appropriate concert behavior. It has been fantastic to watch each child grow and discover as the year has gone by. I look forward to continuing and growing our WIPP Music Program in the next school year!

As Plato stated, "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything."
