Visit from Southside Fire Department
On Wednesday, October 19th, we had a visit from the Southside Firefighters to help us review some of the fire safety rules that we had been talking about and practicing in class. They showed us the giant fire trucks and what it looks like when they're wearing all of their firefighting gear. Some of us thought it was a little scary!
Then we got to get our pictures taken with the firemen and the firetrucks--some of us even climbed up in the driver's seat! At last it was time for the firefighters to leave. We said thank you and waved goodbye. Of course, when we went out to the playground, we wanted to play firefighters too!

Happy Fall from W.I.P.P.!
October 18, 2011
Hi Families!
I hope that all of you are ready for the fall weather that’s finally coming our way! Below are a few changes and upcoming dates to mark on your calendar.
Monday, October 24th Conference day--no school for students! Contact your child’s teacher if you need more information on scheduling a conference.
Fall photos Because we were late getting our proofs back from Miss Lori (www.photographybylori.com), the due date has been extended one week. Orders and payment need to be turned in (or ordered online) by Friday, October 28th. Miss Lori has also scheduled a studio retake time on October 27th from 1:00-4:00 for anyone who missed our school retakes.
Monday, October 31st Happy Halloween! Most classes will be invited to wear costumes and will be having their Halloween parties that morning. (Look for details coming home from your child’s teacher.) Our 3s and 4s will walk up to Summer Breeze in their costumes to trick-or-treat.
Friday, November 11th No school in honor of Veterans’ Day!
Thursday/Friday, November 17th/18th Usborne Book Fair (All proceeds go to our Playground Fund!)
Friday, November 18th Grandparents’ Day at WIPP! Grandparents (or a special friend) will bring their grandchildren to school for our Thanksgiving program (9:30 a.m.) and a special treat with their classes. (We’ll be sending more information home on this in the next couple of weeks.)
Thanksgiving Break No school November 21st through 25th! Enjoy the holiday!
Thank you for all for the used ink cartridges you’ve donated. We’ve received more than $50 in Staples rewards bucks from our school recycling! Please keep sending them in.
Thanks also to all of you who use your Publix card! We recently received a check for more than $250 from Publix! This is going straight into the fund for our planned new playground! Remember you can use more than one school card when you shop at Publix. If your child attends May Howard or any other school that uses a partners card, just ask the cashier to scan both of the cards. If you need a new card, let us know by email or phone--or stop by the office and pick one up.
Enjoy the season!

Mrs. Smith/Mrs. Heebner's 5-day 3s
Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Heebner teach our 3s flex class. Some of their students come three days (MWF) and some come all five days. As you can see, these children were busy getting ready for the fire truck visit tomorrow!
When everyone got back inside, they settled down to snack. Of course, after snack, it's time to clean up. What better way to clean off tables than with shaving cream!
Other boys and girls were working on some special Halloween hats to take home.
After morning work (and play!) it was time to go outside.
