WIPP Update 9/18/18

Hi Families!

We've been in school just over three weeks and it's amazing how fast things have settled down! We still have the occasional tears in the morning, but everyone gets happy once the day begins. Thank you for your patience as we got the year started.

We have a No School/Parent Conference day scheduled for Monday, October 8th. We actually have a couple of weather days built into our calendar this year so we will still have off and won't need to use it as a make-up day. In the next couple of weeks you should receive a conference invitation from your child's teacher. Some teachers will use that Monday for all of their conferences, others will offer before/after school options. We know that we talk to many of you via email and/or phone, at carpool, etc., so if you prefer to wait on a face-to-face conference, just let your child's teacher know.

We've had a few health issues running through the building already. In addition to the general fall sniffles and coughs, we've had several ear infections and a few cases of a 24-48 stomach bug. Please make sure that we have a number where we can always reach someone if your child gets sick.

Next week, AdLib Photography will be doing our individual school photos. Our 4s, TTh 2s, and 5-day 2s will have their pictures taken on Thursday, September 27th, and our 3s and MWF 2s will have theirs done on Friday, September 28th. You'll find a little more information about pricing and hints for good photos below. We'll send home reminders next week.

Thanks for all of your support!

First Week of School

Below are some photos from our first week of school.  Thank you so much for making it such a success!

As we start back to school tomorrow, carpool will be in full swing for all of our students. Since we haven't yet learned all of the cars for the kids in our classes, it would be a big help if you would hold up the class name tag as you get near the front of the carpool line. Once we get better at recognizing cars laying it flat on the dashboard should be fine, but it would help us out a lot if you hold up the tag for the first couple of weeks. Also, we ask that you hold off talking on your phone during drop-off and pick-up. There are kids and teachers walking through the parking lots to reach cars and we want distractions at a minimum to make sure everyone stays safe.

Remember that we always have our older siblings go to their younger siblings' carpool lot. If you have more than one child at WIPP, we'll make sure that both of your children are together at dismissal in the lot that your younger child uses. Our 2s classes will be using the back parking lot along with Miss Heebner's class. All of the other classes are in the front parking lot.

Carpool Info!

Thank you for a great Open House and Get Acquainted Day last week.

As we begin our first full week of school, our 2s will be walked in and picked up at the classroom by their parents. We ask that you park in the front parking lot and hold your child's hand as you cross the paved area. School doors will open at 8:50.

Carpool begins tomorrow for our 3s and 4s. We're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, but if it rains and you'd prefer to walk your child in rather than wait in line, please park in the front parking lot with the parents of our 2s. Since we haven't yet learned all of the cars for the kids in our classes, it would be a big help if you'd hold up the class name tag as you get near the front of the carpool line. Also, we ask that you hold off talking on your phone during drop-off and pick-up. There are kids and teachers walking through the parking lots to reach cars and we want distractions at a minimum to make sure everyone stays safe.

In order for us to put your child in the car during carpool, you must have an appropriate car/booster seat for him/her. Please make sure if someone else is picking up your child, they are also in compliance. Georgia Child Passenger Safety Law (code 40-8-76) states that children under age 8 must be properly secured in an approved car seat or booster seat while riding in passenger automobiles, vans, and pickup trucks. The car seat and/or booster seat must:
  • Be in the rear seat
  • Be appropriate for the child’s weight & height
  • Meet all U.S. Federal standards
  • Be installed and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions
If you have any questions, please check   http://www.gahighwaysafety.org/fullpanel/uploads/files/childpassengerc3.pdf .

Some additional carpool helps and hints:
  • In the front parking lot we'll have our 4s classes, Miss Didi's 3s and Mrs. Knudsen's 3s.
  • In the back parking lot we'll have Mrs. Heebner's 3s and all of our 2s (once they start carpool!)
  • For our student siblings, we use the parking lot of the youngest sibling for carpool. If you have a child in the 4s and one in the 2s, both children will be ready for carpool in the back parking lot. (For this week, if you have children in the 2s and 4s, please just walk both of them into the building.)
  • Placing your child's car seat on the passenger side of your car will help us keep things moving. We know this isn't always possible, but if it can be done, we appreciate it!
  • Staff members will get your child out of the car during morning carpool and secure him/her into car seats at afternoon carpool.
  • If you need an extra carpool name tag, let us know and we'll get you one ASAP.
Please be patient with us at the beginning as we learn the children's names and cars. It gets better quickly!

Thanks for sharing your child/children with us!
