First Week of School

Below are some photos from our first week of school.  Thank you so much for making it such a success!

As we start back to school tomorrow, carpool will be in full swing for all of our students. Since we haven't yet learned all of the cars for the kids in our classes, it would be a big help if you would hold up the class name tag as you get near the front of the carpool line. Once we get better at recognizing cars laying it flat on the dashboard should be fine, but it would help us out a lot if you hold up the tag for the first couple of weeks. Also, we ask that you hold off talking on your phone during drop-off and pick-up. There are kids and teachers walking through the parking lots to reach cars and we want distractions at a minimum to make sure everyone stays safe.

Remember that we always have our older siblings go to their younger siblings' carpool lot. If you have more than one child at WIPP, we'll make sure that both of your children are together at dismissal in the lot that your younger child uses. Our 2s classes will be using the back parking lot along with Miss Heebner's class. All of the other classes are in the front parking lot.

Carpool Info!

Thank you for a great Open House and Get Acquainted Day last week.

As we begin our first full week of school, our 2s will be walked in and picked up at the classroom by their parents. We ask that you park in the front parking lot and hold your child's hand as you cross the paved area. School doors will open at 8:50.

Carpool begins tomorrow for our 3s and 4s. We're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, but if it rains and you'd prefer to walk your child in rather than wait in line, please park in the front parking lot with the parents of our 2s. Since we haven't yet learned all of the cars for the kids in our classes, it would be a big help if you'd hold up the class name tag as you get near the front of the carpool line. Also, we ask that you hold off talking on your phone during drop-off and pick-up. There are kids and teachers walking through the parking lots to reach cars and we want distractions at a minimum to make sure everyone stays safe.

In order for us to put your child in the car during carpool, you must have an appropriate car/booster seat for him/her. Please make sure if someone else is picking up your child, they are also in compliance. Georgia Child Passenger Safety Law (code 40-8-76) states that children under age 8 must be properly secured in an approved car seat or booster seat while riding in passenger automobiles, vans, and pickup trucks. The car seat and/or booster seat must:
  • Be in the rear seat
  • Be appropriate for the child’s weight & height
  • Meet all U.S. Federal standards
  • Be installed and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions
If you have any questions, please check   http://www.gahighwaysafety.org/fullpanel/uploads/files/childpassengerc3.pdf .

Some additional carpool helps and hints:
  • In the front parking lot we'll have our 4s classes, Miss Didi's 3s and Mrs. Knudsen's 3s.
  • In the back parking lot we'll have Mrs. Heebner's 3s and all of our 2s (once they start carpool!)
  • For our student siblings, we use the parking lot of the youngest sibling for carpool. If you have a child in the 4s and one in the 2s, both children will be ready for carpool in the back parking lot. (For this week, if you have children in the 2s and 4s, please just walk both of them into the building.)
  • Placing your child's car seat on the passenger side of your car will help us keep things moving. We know this isn't always possible, but if it can be done, we appreciate it!
  • Staff members will get your child out of the car during morning carpool and secure him/her into car seats at afternoon carpool.
  • If you need an extra carpool name tag, let us know and we'll get you one ASAP.
Please be patient with us at the beginning as we learn the children's names and cars. It gets better quickly!

Thanks for sharing your child/children with us!

Open House!

Just a reminder that tonight is our Parent Open House!

Join us in the Sanctuary at 7:00 for a short welcome meeting, then our 3s and 4s parents stop by the classrooms for a short visit.  Our 2s parents remain in the Sanctuary for a short meet and greet with the 2s teachers.

Tomorrow is our Get-Acquainted Day.

Parents of our 3s and 4s park and walk in for drop off around 9:00--and pick up at 10:30 after a fun morning of meeting teachers and new friends.

Our 2s have a classroom playdate so their schedule is a little different.  We ask that you bring your child to his/her class, play a little bit and/or do an activity.  After 15-20 minutes, you can pack up for home!
  • Miss Jaycie's 5-day 2s can stop by any time between 9:00 and 10:15.
  • Mrs. Anderson's MWF 2s can stop by around 9:15.
  • Miss Emily's TTh 2s will visit at about 9:50.

Letter to Families

Below is the letter we sent out via snail mail and email this weekend.

We hope that you’ve enjoyed your summer. We're getting the building ready for our Parents' Open House on Wednesday, August 22, at 7:00 pm. Our students will join us for a Get-Acquainted Day on Thursday, August 23 from 9:00-10:30. We ask that all parents park and walk their children to class for our Get-Acquainted Day and pick them up afterward. (Our 2s are a little bit different since a parent accompanies them for a get-acquainted playdate on Thursday. If you're the parent of a two-year-old you should have received an email with details on this.) Everyone should receive an email and/or a snail mail contact from their child's teacher sometime in the next week.

School officially begins on Monday, August 27. Carpool begins right away for our 3s and 4s. We ask that our 2s parents continue to do a walk-in/pick-up through that first week. It's also helpful if you place your child's carseat on the passenger side of your vehicle to make it easier for us to help your child get in and out. You'll receive more details about carpool from your child's teacher during Open House.

We've had a few changes in classes and staffing. Check below for more information on this. Right now we have a couple of spots open in our TTH 2s, one spot open in our 3s, and one spot open in our 4s. Our other classes are full with waiting lists. If your plans change about attending WIPP this year, please let us know so we can offer your child's spot to the next family on our list!

WIPP will continue its active participation in the Georgia Preschool Association and Georgia Accrediting Commission. Our staff is required to have instruction in developmentally appropriate educational practices each year in accordance with our accreditation. We have an open-door policy and welcome you to come and visit at any time. We strive to offer a caring, Christian environment that provides the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to enable each of our students to achieve his/her individual potential.

There's a copy of the school calendar posted on the blog--just check the link on the right hand side of the page. Our school blog is a great way to keep track of things going on in our building throughout the year.

Keep your eyes open for information on WIPP's Publix Partners changes. The program is changing to an online registration where you'll punch in an ID number during checkout. Last year we received over $800 from Publix—just from the use of our Partners cards! As soon as all of the details are in, we'll send out the information. Please continue using your Publix Partners cards in the meantime—Mine still worked this weekend! :-)

We also collect used toner and ink cartridges to recycle at Staples. For the last two years, we've used these recycling points to purchase all of the case paper used in the school throughout the entire year! If you (or your business) has used ink/toner cartridges (any brand) that you're not currently recycling, please send them to school in a Ziploc bag for us!

Beginning Tuesday, September 4, we will offer our Early Bird program each weekday morning starting at 8:15 for $2.00 per day. We will also offer our Lunch Bunch program Wednesday through Friday starting on September 5. Lunch Bunch hours are 12:00-1:00 at a cost of $5.00 per day. Students need to be potty-trained to stay for Lunch Bunch! In addition to the Y offering gymnastics pickup for Tuesday classes (Contact Islands Y for more info.) Sweet Feet Soccer will do 10 week programs in soccer on Mondays and lacrosse on Tuesdays. There will be additional information on all of this forthcoming.

We're looking forward to seeing you soon and sharing this year with you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Almost August!

We hope that you've had a wonderful summer so far. We're still a few weeks away from the start of our school year, but we're posting out our basic supply lists now to give you plenty of time to get ready.  You can find the list for each class below.

Teachers will receive their class lists the week of August 13th and you should receive an email and/or a letter from your child's teacher shortly after that.

Our Parent Open House is Wednesday, August 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. This meeting gives our parents an opportunity to meet their child's teacher and get a sneak peek at classrooms.

Our Student Get-Acquainted Day is Thursday, August 23, 9:00-10:30.  You can send supplies in your child's bookbag on the Get-Acquainted Day.

There is no school on Friday, August 24. Regular classes begin Monday, August 27.

Threes and Fours
With our 3s and 4s we ask that you walk your child to his/her class at about 9:00, say a quick goodbye, and then return to the classroom at 10:30 to pick up him/her. Your child will have a chance to meet his/her teacher, interact with friends in the classroom, and have a little snack.

Twos
Our 2s have their visit as a "playdate" with mom or dad, (or grandma or grandpa) some time between 9:10-10:30. We ask that you bring your child to his/her class, come in and look around with him/her, play a little bit and/or do an activity. After 15-20 minutes, you can pack up for home--but please talk to your child before classes start up the week of August 27th about all of the fun things and good friends that he/she will have to look forward to. You can send supplies in your child's bookbag on the Get-Acquainted Day.

Because one classroom has a class who will be attending TTh and a class who will be attending MWF, we're asking that all of our MWF students come by with their parents from 9:15-9:45 while our TTh students visit between 9:50 and 10:20. That way there will be plenty of room for everyone!

Our M-F class can stop by for a visit any time between 9:10 and 10:30 since all of these students will be in our five-day classroom. We anticipate some crowds around the 9:00 drop-off time and the 10:30 pick-up time for the rest of the building, so you might want to avoid those times!

We're looking forward to seeing everyone!  If your plans have changed and your family won't be joining us this year, please let us know.  We have waiting lists for several of our classes!
