First Day of School
We had a few tears, made some new friends and had lots of fun! There are some pictures below of our students on their first day of the 2017-18 school year. (A lot of them are from the 2s because Miss Kathleen spent some time with them on the first day! Thanks also to our awesome older siblings who helped settle down some of our unsure little two-year-olds!)

Parent Email: August 27, 2017
Thank you for a great Open House and Get Acquainted Day last week. As we begin our first full week of school, our 2s will be walked in and picked up at the classroom by their parents. We ask that you park in the front parking lot and hold your child's hand as you cross the paved area. School doors will open at 8:50.
Carpool begins tomorrow for our 3s and 4s. We're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, but if it rains and you'd prefer to walk your child in rather than wait in line, please park in the front parking lot with the parents of our 2s. Since we haven't yet learned all of the cars for the kids in our classes, it would be a big help if you'd hold up the class name tag as you get near the front of the carpool line. Also, we ask that you hold off talking on your phone during drop-off and pick-up. There are kids and teachers walking through the parking lots to reach cars and we want distractions at a minimum to make sure everyone stays safe.
In order for us to put your child in the car during carpool, you must have an appropriate car/booster seat for him/her. Please make sure if someone else is picking up your child, they are also in compliance. Georgia Child Passenger Safety Law (code 40-8-76) states that children under age 8 must be properly secured in an approved car seat or booster seat while riding in passenger automobiles, vans, and pickup trucks. The car seat and/or booster seat must:
- Be in the rear seat
- Be appropriate for the child’s weight & height
- Meet all U.S. Federal standards
- Be installed and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions
If you have any questions, please check http://www.gahighwaysafe ty.org/fullpanel/uploads/files /childpassengerc3.pdf .
We're expecting some paving work on our back driveway this week--but we'll keep our fingers crossed that it's all done in the afternoons and doesn't interfere with us!
Some additional carpool helps and hints:
- In the front parking lot we'll have our 4s classes, Miss Didi's 3s and Mrs. Knudsen's 3s.
- In the back parking lot we'll have Mrs. Heebner's 3s and all of our 2s (once they start carpool!)
- For our student siblings, we use the parking lot of the youngest sibling for carpool. If you have a child in the 4s and one in the 2s, both children will be ready for carpool in the back parking lot. (For this week, if you have children in the 2s and 4s, please just walk both of them into the building.)
- Placing your child's car seat on the passenger side of your car will help us keep things moving. We know this isn't always possible, but if it can be done, we appreciate it!
- Staff members will get your child out of the car during morning carpool and secure him/her into a car seat at afternoon carpool.
- If you need an extra carpool name tag, let us know and we'll get you one ASAP.
Please be patient with us at the beginning as we learn the children's names and cars. It gets better quickly!
Thanks for sharing your child/children with us!

Welcome Back Week!
Our Parent Open House is Wednesday, August 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. This gives our parents an opportunity to meet their child's teacher and get some additional details on the start of the school year. This meeting is for parents and should be over by about 7:45.
Our Student Get-Acquainted Day is Thursday, August 24, 9:00-10:30.
- With our 3s and 4s we ask that you walk your child to his/her class at 9:00, say a quick goodbye, and then return at 10:30 to pick up him/her. Your child will have a chance to meet his/her teacher, interact with friends in the classroom, and have a little snack. You can send supplies in your child's bookbag on the Get-Acquainted Day.
- Our 2s have their visit as a "playdate" with mom or dad, (or grandma or grandpa) some time between 9:10-10:30. We ask that you bring your child to his/her class, come in and look around with him/her, play a little bit and/or do an activity. After 15-20 minutes, you can pack up for home--but please talk to your child before classes start up the week of August 28th about all of the fun things and good friends that he/she will have to look forward to. You can send supplies in your child's bookbag on the Get-Acquainted Day.
- Because one classroom has a class who will be attending TTh and a class who will be attending MWF, we're asking that all of our MWF students come by with their parents from 9:15-9:45 while our TTh students visit between 9:50 and 10:20. That way there will be plenty of room for everyone! Our M-F class can stop by for a visit any time between 9:10 and 10:30 since all of these students will be in our five-day classroom. We anticipate some crowds around the 9:00 drop-off time and the 10:30 pick-up time for the rest of the building, so you might want to avoid those times!
There is no school on Friday, August 25. Regular classes and carpool begin Monday, August 28.

Comcast Email Issues!
Hi Families!
Many of you who have an email account with comcast aren't getting our school emails. I've talked to a comcast rep (and tried this out on my own account!) and it's because of the comcast spam filters. Unfortunately, there's not an easy fix. Because we send out emails to multiple parties, there's a good chance our emails will be blocked by comcast accounts.

To view school emails:
- Go to preferences in your comcast/xfinity email account.
- Click on Emails.
- Go to Spam Filtering.
- Place a check in Save a copy of emails marked as spam.
This will allow you to view messages being flagged as spam--including WIPP emails. In your spam folder, select the WIPP email and mark it as not spam from the little email menu bar.
This doesn't mean that all WIPP emails will now get through--they'll still end up in your spam folder, but at least you'll know where they are!
Thanks for your patience!
Hope this helps with our communication!

Islands YMCA Gymnastics at WIPP
Each year Islands YMCA offers a Tuesday gymnastics class for our students. They pick up the students at WIPP during carpool and have them ready at the Y for parent pick-up at 1:00. Space is very limited so if you're interested in having your child participate, please contact the Islands YMCA ASAP!
General registration info is included below. Please note that WIPP kids are on a month-to-month basis and that our classes start in September. All classes and registration is handled through the Y so if you have questions, please call Amanda at the Y @ 912-897-1192.
The
sport of gymnastics is a great way to develop body awareness and
coordination, increase confidence and independence, and learn social
skills and good sportsmanship. The Islands YMCA gymnastics program
is dedicated to producing successful gymnasts by providing a fun,
safe and motivating atmosphere that enhances physical and mental
well-being while encouraging all gymnasts to reach their full
potential. We offer a variety of boys and girls recreational and
preschool gymnastics classes. These classes utilize all of the
gymnastics equipment and events. Class programs are based on skills
as defined by USA Gymnastics. Required skills must be mastered at
each level before advancing to the next class. The gymnastics
program also offers summer camps, open gym, Parent’s Night Out and
other special activities throughout the year.
Program
fees are session based; classes are a first come, first serve basis.
Fees are due by the end of week 5 in each session. Students are
guaranteed priority enrollment in the following session, as long as
payment is received one week prior to the beginning of the new
session. A $10.00 late fee is applied to any tuition not paid by the
first week of the new session and your gymnasts spot will be
forfeited. New students may join a session already in progress.
Please contact the GymnasticsOffice for pricing details or to
schedule a free trial class!
