Grandparents' Day Songs

I made a few videos of Miss Caitlin while she was practicing some of our Grandparents' Day songs with my class so that you can sing along with your child at  home.  (Please excuse my lack of video skills.  I'm still learning!)

Praise Him
Praise Him, praise him all ye little children
God is love, God is love.
Praise Him, praise him all ye little children
God is love, God is love.

Love Him, love him all ye little children
God is love, God is love.
Love Him, love him all ye little children
God is love, God is love.

Thank Him thank him all ye little children
God is love, God is love.
Thank Him, thank him all ye little children
God is love, God is love.

Indians Like to Play
(Sing twice)

Hi-ya-ya-ya
Hi-ya-ya-ya
Indians like to play!

Strut Mr. Turkey (Sing twice)

Who’s that sitting there looking mighty perky
Looks like it might be old Mr. Turkey
Strut Mr. Turkey
That’s a fancy way to walk!
Strut Mr. Turkey
That’s a fancy way to walk!

Many Things
There are many things I am thankful for
I can find them near and far
There are many things I am thankful for
Let me tell you what they are...

We're also singing Salute the Flag and Jesus Loves Me which most of the children already know.  I don't have a video for those, but here are the words:

Salute the Flag

Salute the flag,
The grand old flag
With colors red, white and blue
It stands for truth and liberty
This flag is waving for you!
Salute!

Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me! this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
they are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Grandparents' Day Information

Tuesday, November 23,2010
10:00 a.m. program in the Sanctuary

Photography by Lori will be available from 9:00-9:45 a.m. if you would like to have a picture taken with your grandchild.  Cost will be $8.00 for a 5x7 photo and will be due at the time the picture is taken.  Make all checks payable to Photography by Lori.

If you're not having a photo taken, please bring your grandchild to his/her classroom at 9:45 a.m. to put on costumes for the program before going over to the church sanctuary.  After the program, our 3s and 4s will accompany their grandparents back to the classroom for snacks.  Our 2s and their grandparents, and any families with multiple students at WIPP, will meet in Fellowship Hall for snacks and punch.

Remember this is not a normal school day for us.  There will be no early birds, car pool, or lunch bunch.  Children will come to school with their grandparents/special friend, sit with them during the program (except when it's their turn to come to the front of the church and sing) and leave with them after the program.

Let us know if  you have any questions!

November Update

Craft project
Thanks to parents who sent in their extra tiles from those home remodeling jobs! We're still in need of about 50 more 4X4 or 6X6 tiles. If you have any to donate, please send them/drop them off at school no later than Tuesday, November 9th.

Time Change
Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour this Sunday, November 7th!

Holiday
No school Thursday, November 11th or Friday, November 12th in honor of Veterans' Day.

Grandparents' Day
We're getting ready to welcome our grandparents on Tuesday, November 23. If you haven't returned your child's form, please do so ASAP. If you need to recheck the information, I've posted it on our the website.

Lunch Bunch
Just a reminder that we're offering Lunch Bunch each afternoon from 12:00 to 1:00 for our 3s and 4s. If you'd like your child to stay, send his/her lunch and $5--and we'll take care of the rest. Remember that you must pay the morning of your child's stay (or you can prepay ahead of time and the office will note that.) Also, please make sure that you are on time to pick your child up. There is a late fee for children who remain after the 1:00 dismissal.

Thanksgiving
We have no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday (November 24-26) for the Thanksgiving holidays. Have a wonderful and blessed family time!

Tuesday, November 2

Each morning as we start the day, our students come in and do various kinds of morning work.  While part of our staff is out supervising our morning drop-off, the rest are in the classrooms helping with various projects.  As you can see from the pictures below from our 2s, 3s, and 4s classes, everyone has the opportunity to work/play at developmentally appropriate activities.

Friday, October 29

Thanks to all of the families who helped with our Halloween celebrations.  It's your help and support that make our school such a wonderful place to be!

Wednesday, October 27

Thank you to the residents and staff of Summer Breeze for inviting us over to Trick or Treat.  We had a wonderful time!

Thursday, October 21

We had some excitement in one of our 4s classes this morning.  Our monarch chrysalises began opening!  We watched as one of the butterflies dried its wings and moved around the cage.  Another one of the chrysalises has darkened and we think that will be the next butterfly to emerge.

Last chance for our school photos!
Photography by Lori will have studio hours on Wednesday , October 20th from 4:00-6:00 for any child who hasn’t yet gotten a school picture taken. We’re hoping to make a yearbook available in the spring so we’d like to have a picture of everyone! Visit http://www.photographybylori.com/ for more information, phone number, address, etc.

A Peek Ahead at November

Wednesday, October 13

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost halfway through October already. After our taste of fall weather last week, we’re ready for jacket weather!

Donations Needed!

If you have unused ceramic tiles that you would like to donate to the school, please send them in. We need 4”x4” and 6”x6” tiles for our Grandparents’ Day project. Color doesn’t matter!

Halloween Week Information

On Wednesday, October 27th, our students will go trick-or-treating next door at Summer Breeze. We’ll wear our Halloween costumes on that day and walk over to visit the residents and sing our Halloween songs for them. Because we’re just across the lawn from Summer Breeze we won’t need chaperones for this “trip” but check the class monthly calendar or ask the teacher to see which day your child’s Halloween party will be. Some classes are doing parties on Wednesday after our trick-or-treating and some are waiting until Friday.

Halloween Songs

Below are the lyrics for some of the songs we’ll be singing if you’d like to practice at home.

Salute the Flag

Salute the flag,
The grand old flag
With colors red, white and blue
It stands for truth and liberty
This flag is waving for you!
Salute!

Five Little Witches

There were five little witches flying in the air, flying in the air, flying in the air.
There were five little witches flying in the air
For this is Halloween!

There were four little skeletons jumping up &down...

There were three little ghosts that were staring everywhere...

There were two little goblins saying “Trick or Treat!”...

There was one little pumpkin swinging on a gate...

Eeensy Weensy Spider

The eensy weensy spider climbed up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the eensy weensy spider climbed up the spout again.

False Face

Who’s behind that false face?
Nobody knows but me.
Who’s behind that false face?
Nobody knows but me.

I won’t tell you.
You will have to guess.
If your guess is right,
I will answer YES!

Pumpkin Chant

Pumpkin, pumpkin
Round and fat
Turn into a jack-o-lantern
Just like that!

Stirring the Brew

Stirring and stirring and stirring our brew
(Pretend to stir something in a big pot).
WHOOO-OO, WHOO-OO
(Put hands near mouth and wiggle fingers)
   Repeat

Tip-toe, tip-toe, tip-toe—BOO!
(With each tip-toe sing lower and use your fingers to tip-toe in the air, until BOO where you then close and open your hands next to your face, saying BOO loud!)

Friday, October 8

Thank you very much to the Southside Fire Department for coming out to visit!

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Thursday, October 7

We had some interesting things going on around the building this morning...

If you peeked into Mrs. Reese's class, you might have seen a chrysalis.

Just across the hall in Mrs. Whitaker's class, there were some strange shapes taking form...

A few reminders...

  • To wrap up Fire Prevention Week, we'll be visited by the fire truck tomorrow morning (Friday) at about 10:00.  Check back for pictures later this weekend.
  • The last day to pay October's tuition without a late fee is Tuesday 10/12.
  • No school on Monday, October 11th.

Using bubble wrap to mix red and yellow to make orange.

We've had a good response to our first few days of Lunch Bunch.  Remember if you'd like your child to stay, pack a lunch, send a note in the morning along with payment of $5.00, and tell them to have fun!  Pick-up is at 1:00.
