We spent the end of February and the beginning of March during music singing some cow songs and getting ready for St,. Patrick's Day.
We read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Cow and then sand and danced to “The Cows Go Moo!” You can find the lyrics and a link to this song at https://www.thecowsgomoo.com/ .
We also read and sang along to There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover and talked about clovers and shamrocks. Then we learned some of the words to “I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover” and sang and danced to an old banjo version of the song.
Next it was time to learn the story of St. Patrick and how he was taken from his home in Britain by pirates. We chanted and sang about him using this song: https://youtu.be/-TUpakGDvlM .
Then we had to read and sing about the old lady pirate in There Was An Old Pirate Who Swallowed A Map! We changed this book around quite a bit! We gave a snap (or a tap/clap for those kids who couldn't snap) and skipped pages without the rhyming and singing parts. We also finished up at the end at a very special amusement park ride—Pirates of the Caribbean at Disney!
We finished up our St. Patrick's Day musical celebrations with Irish Dancing—well, the preschool version of Irish dancing! We listened to a couple of Irish jigs and danced and clapped along.
We'll be doing some spring and Easter songs during our next music unit--including the Bunny Hop!
