Music with Miss Kathleen!
I start each class with a book from the Old Lady series. We sang There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books in September. I switch some of the words from the chorus section so the kids can sing along and do some motions. For the Old Lady and the Fly, we all sing "I don't know why she swallowed that fly...Maybe she'll cry! WAAH! WAAH!" and for the Old Lady and the Books, it's "I don't know why she swallowed those books...Can you give her a silly look?" Of course, we then all have to make really silly faces!
This month in music classes we're also singing our September Bible story song "Who Built the Ark?" After telling the story of Noah and the Ark, we sing:
Who built the ark? Noah! Noah!
Who built the ark? Brother Noah built the ark.
Old man Noah, he built the ark, he built it out of the hickory bark.
He built it long and wide and tall
For all of the animals, big and small!
REPEAT
Another song we've done this month which the kids have really enjoyed is Drive My Car by Laurie Berkner. You can find it lots of places, including here
In some of the classes we've been singing Rock-A-Bye Baby (replacing "...cradle and all" with "...kisses and all"!), the ABCs, The Ants Go Marching, and Salute the Flag.
I'm enjoying seeing the familiar faces of last year's students and getting to know our new kids!
