Our 2s had a lot of fun with their new friends on the playground today. We were really glad that the rain held off!

First Day of School
We had a few tears, made some new friends and had lots of fun! There are some pictures below of our students on their first day of the 2017-18 school year. (A lot of them are from the 2s because Miss Kathleen spent some time with them on the first day! Thanks also to our awesome older siblings who helped settle down some of our unsure little two-year-olds!)

Thank you for a great Open House and Get Acquainted Day last week. As we begin our first full week of school, our 2s will be walked in and picked up at the classroom by their parents. We ask that you park in the front parking lot and hold your child's hand as you cross the paved area. School doors will open at 8:50.
Carpool begins tomorrow for our 3s and 4s. We're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, but if it rains and you'd prefer to walk your child in rather than wait in line, please park in the front parking lot with the parents of our 2s. Since we haven't yet learned all of the cars for the kids in our classes, it would be a big help if you'd hold up the class name tag as you get near the front of the carpool line. Also, we ask that you hold off talking on your phone during drop-off and pick-up. There are kids and teachers walking through the parking lots to reach cars and we want distractions at a minimum to make sure everyone stays safe.
In order for us to put your child in the car during carpool, you must have an appropriate car/booster seat for him/her. Please make sure if someone else is picking up your child, they are also in compliance. Georgia Child Passenger Safety Law (code 40-8-76) states that children under age 8 must be properly secured in an approved car seat or booster seat while riding in passenger automobiles, vans, and pickup trucks. The car seat and/or booster seat must:
- Be in the rear seat
- Be appropriate for the child’s weight & height
- Meet all U.S. Federal standards
- Be installed and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions
If you have any questions, please check http://www.gahighwaysafety.org/fullpanel/uploads/files/childpassengerc3.pdf .
We're expecting some paving work on our back driveway this week--but we'll keep our fingers crossed that it's all done in the afternoons and doesn't interfere with us!
Some additional carpool helps and hints:
- In the front parking lot we'll have our 4s classes, Miss Didi's 3s and Mrs. Knudsen's 3s.
- In the back parking lot we'll have Mrs. Heebner's 3s and all of our 2s (once they start carpool!)
- For our student siblings, we use the parking lot of the youngest sibling for carpool. If you have a child in the 4s and one in the 2s, both children will be ready for carpool in the back parking lot. (For this week, if you have children in the 2s and 4s, please just walk both of them into the building.)
- Placing your child's car seat on the passenger side of your car will help us keep things moving. We know this isn't always possible, but if it can be done, we appreciate it!
- Staff members will get your child out of the car during morning carpool and secure him/her into a car seat at afternoon carpool.
- If you need an extra carpool name tag, let us know and we'll get you one ASAP.
Please be patient with us at the beginning as we learn the children's names and cars. It gets better quickly!
Thanks for sharing your child/children with us!
Kathleen
